Book Review; Frankenstein by Mary Shelley

At long last, I've finally read the gothic classic Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, which is also the start of sci-fi, and today I'll post my review of the book.

Description from Goodreads
The scientist Victor Frankenstein, obsessed with possessing the secrets of life, creates a new being from the bodies of the dead. But his creature is a twisted, gruesome parody of a man who, rejected for his monstrous appearance, sets out to destroy his maker.

Mary Shelley's chilling Gothic tale, conceived after a nightmare in 1816 when she was only eighteen, became a modern myth. It is a disturbing and dramatic exploration of birth and death, creation and destruction, and one of the most iconic horror stories of all time.

My Thoughts on the Book
Frankenstein was such an engaging read, I finished it in one night. It's about the dark side of science, but in true gothic style, it's also about home, family, belonging, otherness, and the uncanny. After all, the "monster" wanted a wife of his own.

Frankenstein is also one of those classics that's fairly easy to read I think, so if anyone is intimidated by classics, feel free to give this one a try.

While a new adaption of Frankenstein came last year produced and directed by Guillermo del Toro, I do have a weak spot for the really old one with Boris Karloff.
